Hey friends!
I’m so excited to share this new Granny Square Video Tutorial with you on my YouTube channel! This one’s a beauty—it's called the Gilwen Square, and while I didn’t design this pattern myself, I absolutely had to try it after I came across it online. I’ll be walking you through how to crochet this square step-by-step in a brand new video. 💖
The Gilwen Square is a 5-round square with a textured, floral design that works up beautifully. It’s the perfect square for those of you who are beyond the basics but still want something that feels relaxing and rhythmic to stitch. I'd consider this an "Easy" level project—just a step up from advanced beginner.
If you're here from YouTube—hi and welcome! You'll find the pattern instructions and materials list below, plus ideas and inspo to spark your next project. Let's dive in!
🌼 A Closer Look at the Gilwen Square

Isn’t it beautiful?! Just look at that flower bloom—centered with a bright yellow starburst, surrounded by deep red petals, leafy green textures, and a frame of soft blues and grays. It’s one of those designs that looks like a tiny work of art but is actually really approachable to make.
This square has so much character! Whether you're pairing bold shades or going for soft neutrals, the layered effect really makes the texture pop. I love how it gives that handmade, heirloom feel while still being fun and modern.
